About Real Peoples Pilates
Liz Chandler founded Real People Pilates ® in 2005. Real People Pilates was created as a result of Liz Chandler's desire to produce a Pilates video that would inspire and cater specifically to people over 50. The name Real People Pilates was coined when considering the best format and style to appeal to those real people over 50; one that would be approachable, beneficial, understandable and easy to follow exercise programme. Liz has over 15 years experience of working with this targeted age group in the fitness and Pilates field, creatively in dance projects and in research. She presents Professional Development Workshops on Pilates for the Older Generations and Functional Pilates.
Liz
comes from a professional contemporary dance background. Originally
from California, she received a BA in Dance from the University
of California (UCLA). After graduating she went on to perform professionally
with companies in both the US and the UK. Since moving
to England in the 1990s she has presented her own choreography
and has been commissioned as a choreographer for dance and physical
theatre companies. Liz has lectured and taught dance for Bath City
College and the University of Bath, England. It was through her career
in dance that she became aware of Pilates. When she was incapacitated
by 2 spinal disc bulges/protrusions Liz turned to Pilates as a means
of rehabilitation. Her osteopath stated she had never seen such a
speedy recovery from this type of injury.
A Mind, body exercise system that delivers profound results.
Having reaped the benefits of Pilates first hand, Liz was inspired to share the advantages of Pilates with others. She became a fully qualified Pilates teacher with Body Control Pilates ® and more recently furthered her Pilates training with master teacher Suzanne Scott and the Pilates foundation in machine and apparatus work. Liz teaches Pilates at her centre Pure Moves Studios, Frome, the Scott Studios, Castle Cary. She is head of Fitness at Circomedia, Centre for Circus and Performing Arts and for over 10 years has continued to teach her very dedicated group of adults over 50 in Chew Valley.
Liz has run professional workshops for the Pilates Foundation to teach
instructors the benefits of Functional Pilates and has also run professional
development workshops on Pilates for physiotherapists and osteopaths.
